Is named in a federal lawsuit that charges top executives with making false and misleading statements that inflated the company's share price. The complaint charges that Abercrombie, Chief Executive Michael Jeffries and Robert Singer, the company's former president and chief operating officer, touted the strength of the retailer's business in public disclosures, causing the stock's price to rise. After Jeffries sold more than 2 million Abercrombie shares for proceeds of $142.9 million, the complaint says the retailer posted weaker-than-expected July sales, an event which caused the stock's value to fall to $65.36 a share on August 4, from $70.03 a day earlier. "As a result of the dissemination of the materially false and misleading information and failure to disclose material facts ... the market price of Abercrombie securities was artificially inflated," the complaint states. |
