The US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board revealed that it found significant deficiencies in 19 out of 76 KPMG's audit of US public companies. Deficiencies involved failures to spot or address flaws in companies' use of accounting rules, including, in some cases, errors that appeared likely to be material to their financial statements. Other deficiencies included failures by KPMG to carry out, or perform sufficiently, certain audit procedures at companies. The report says: "In some cases, the deficiencies identified were of such significance that it appeared to the inspection team that [KPMG] had not, at the time it issued its audit report, obtained sufficient competent evidential material to support its opinion on the [company's] financial statements. |
