| 2008 | | ILO violation 87 : When workers organised at M.A. Technology, a Filipino-Japanese manufacturer and suppliers of sensors, computer remote controls to Epson and Sharp based in the Cavite EPZ, management posted notices throughout the factory stating that one of the company’s buyers (Sharp) was not in favour of allowing a union at M.A. Technology. Management stated that if the workers supported the union in the 20 January union certification election, the factory would likely lose orders, and would have to shut down. The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) further reported that management threatened union members that they would be blacklisted from the Cavite EPZ if the company was forced to cease operations because of the union. The company’s anti-union campaign effectively intimidated the workers, and the union lost the certification election. Following the election, the TUCP reported that the company systematically harassed 13 of the workers identified as leaders of the organising effort, and forced their departure from the factory in March.: Philippines | ITUC-CSI |
