I subscribe to TOT's ADSL internet connection in Prachuap Kiri Khan. I pay 1000 baht a month for 1000kbps speed. However, the actual speed of the connection on the internet is between 10 percent to 80 percent of what TOT has contracted to sell me. I have been paying the one thousand baht fiathfully and TOT has (I think) been over subscribing the service in the interest of making money (well, that's what businesses do). I went to the PKK TOT office and ask why my internet connection tests at less than half the speed advertised (promised) and they sent a lineman out to check out my problem. He said everything was fine and that it was running at 800kbps. I questioned that and he explained that it wasn't running at 800kbps like in America. He explained that it's different here in Thailand. Am I expected to believe that Thai kilibites are smaller than their western cousins? I spent over nine hours yesterday downloading a 460MB software program from Apple Computer and really think that's sad when I have this expensive, broadband hook-up of yours.
