1999 Paid $1.8 billion to the Internal Revenue Service for a tax liability connected to an illegal, offshore tax shelter. It consisted of sheltering money from parcel reinsurance from 1984-1999 through a orporation called Overseas Partners Ltd. In June 2001, an Appeals Court overruled the Tax Court’s Decision that UPS had improperly tried to avoid federal income taxes.
