The president of Cisco's Brazilian subsidiary, as well as a former person in charge for the Latin America of the world's largest internet networks equipment, appear among forty people who were placed in provisional detention. The offices of the company in São Paulo and Rio were also closed at the end of a vast operation aiming at dismantling a network of fraud on the importation of data-processing equipment. The emission of fraudulent invoices, realized by intermediaries in tax havens and via a Brazilian retailer, made it possible to reduce half the price of the goods. According to the federal police force, which has carried out the survey for two years, the fraud would rise to 500 million dollars over five years. The charges go from forgery and use of forgery, criminal conspiracy to active corruption. Agents of the customs were also placed in police custody. |
